The Classens

This exciting 10 day tour is being led by University of Arizona Distinguished Professor in German Studies Albrecht Classen and his wife Carolyn, a former practicing attorney. Professor Classen is a native German, and as an international scholar in Medieval Studies, has led UA college study abroad tours to Medieval Europe over the past nine years. His American wife has accompanied him on seven of them, as assistant and chaperone.

The tour starts off in the beautiful city of Zurich, Switzerland; then continues via motorcoach to Heidelberg, Nuremberg, Rothenberg, Erfurt, Dresden, and Berlin in Germany. The medieval sites to be visited include: Frauenmünster Church (with Marc Chagall’s windows) and St. Peter’s Church in Zurich; Heidelberg Castle, Nuremberg Castle, St. Jacob’s Church’s famous wooden altar in Rothenburg by Tilman Riemenschneider, Erfurt Cathedral, Dresden Zwinger Palace and Semper Opera House. Wrapping up the tour will be famous Berlin sites, such as the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Wall ruins, Holocaust Memorial, Pergamon Museum, and Old National Gallery.
This fantastic winter tour has been organized by Tour Resource Consultants, Inc. whose travel agent, Jim Froggatt, has worked with Professor Classen since 2004.

Sign up now for this unique opportunity to see Switzerland and Germany during the 2013 Christmas season! $500 deposit due by September 20 to Tour Resources Consultants.

Willkommen!

Welcome to the December 2013 Christmarkt/Christmas Market tour to Switzerland and Germany. Seven Weihnachtsmärkte and several medieval sites will be visited during the festive Christmas season. The “Tannenbaum” (Christmas tree) is symbolic of the many German customs adopted by Americans over the years, including the nutcracker, gingerbread houses, and advent calendars. If you have ever dreamed about shopping at the brightly lit and festive Christmas markets in Germany, along with visiting historical sites, this is the tour for you!

This trip is intended for adults only, who are physically active as it may require a bit of walking in cold weather through the markets and within the cities.
